A knife gate valve is a valve that opens by lifting a gate out of the path of the liquid or medium. Gate valves require very little space along the pipe axis and hardly restrict the flow of fluid when the gate is fully open. The gate surfaces can be parallel, but are usually wedge-shaped (to be able to exert pressure on the sealing surface).
Knife gate valves are used to shut off the flow of liquids or media and not to regulate flow, as is often the case with a globe valve. When fully open, the flow path in a typical gate valve is unobstructed, resulting in very low flow resistance. The size of the open flow path generally changes non-linearly as the gate is moved. This means that the flow rate does not change uniformly with the stroke of the spindle. Depending on the design, a partially open gate valve may vibrate due to the flow of liquid.

Industrial Knife Gate Valve From Fergo
The FM200 knife-gate valve is by far the most frequently used knife-gate valve from FERGO Armaturen GmbH. Due to its favourable price and its various optional expansion stages, the FM200 knife gate valve proves to be a real all-rounder for many different areas of application. As a single-seated knife gate valve, it is ideal for conveying solids-laden liquids, for example in the waste water sector or in biogas applications. Optionally, the gate valve can be equipped with a top section. The top part prevents the medium from escaping into the environment and allows the knife-gate valve to be easily installed under water or on the ground. The top part is also recommended for high pressures, aggressive liquids and harmful gases. The sophisticated and simple design of the body and seat guarantees long, trouble-free operation with minimal maintenance. The FB200/FM200 knife gate valve is used e.g. in the pulp and paper industry, power plant technology, water and waste water technology, chemical industry, food industry, bulk materials industry and other industries.
The FB700 is the latest knife gate valve in our product range. The special feature of the FB700 is the smooth, dead space-free passage in the gate valve housing in conjunction with a seal on both sides. This means that no solids can be deposited in the bottom of the housing and the knife gate valve is also tight in both flow directions up to the full nominal pressure. As a double-seated knife gate valve or knife-gate valve, it is particularly suitable for applications where the direction of flow and/or the pressure in the pipeline may change. The sophisticated and simple housing design and the new U-profile plate seal guarantee long, trouble-free operation with minimal maintenance.
