Double-acting vs. single-acting – which pneumatic actuator?

For safety valves with a defined fail position (e.g. emergency shutdown) we recommend the single-acting actuator (SR) with NC or NO spring option. For pure process control without fail-safe the double-acting actuator (DA) is the right choice.

The pneumatic quarter-turn actuator suits all quarter-turn valves with an ISO 5211 top flange. In chemical and petrochemical plants double-acting actuators control pneumatic butterfly valves on aggressive media. In safety installations with emergency shutdown single-acting actuators with NC spring option secure the valve in the closed position. In water and wastewater treatment pneumatic actuators automate gates and butterfly valves. For electric automation without compressed air we recommend the J4C electric quarter-turn actuator.
