Fergo: The right butterfly valve for every pipeline
Your business is in good hands with us. We are your point of contact for valves of all kinds, from gate valves and non-return valves to plug valves. We offer a wide range of products. This naturally includes automatic butterfly valves with actuators. The pneumatic or electric motors can also be purchased separately.
And if you don't find what you're looking for straight away, we'll be happy to help you with a customised solution. Because we really know our stuff. Fergo Armaturen has been on the market for over 20 years and our products have always been characterised by innovation. Our DIN-approved butterfly valves made of stainless steel or spheroidal graphite iron are no exception.
In fact, the valves are characterised by exceptional quality, which is reflected in their solid and compact design. Even with aggressive media, the flow of a closed system can be reliably controlled in the long term. Depending on the configuration, industrial butterfly valves from Fergo are therefore suitable for a wide range of applications, such as

The body - Is it better to have a stainless steel or spheroidal graphite iron butterfly valve?
Operational safety starts with the design, both large and small. It is therefore particularly important to us to always use only high-quality materials that enable long and trouble-free use. Every butterfly valve in a pipeline simply has to fit perfectly. That's why we rely on proven standards to protect your systems.
If there is a constant threat of corrosion due to external influences, your butterfly valve should be made of stainless steel (1.4408). Spheroidal graphite cast iron (GGG40), on the other hand, is recommended as a readily available, flexible sleeve, while spheroidal graphite cast iron (GGG50) impresses with its even higher strength. In extreme temperature or pressure regions, ASTM A216 WCB can also be extremely worthwhile. It's all in the mix.
The seal - What material should your sleeve be made of?
If you want to buy a functioning butterfly valve that complies with DIN in Germany, each individual part must fulfil its purpose. Especially with regard to the sealing materials used, the differences can be considerable. This is because, as the centrepiece of the valve, the sleeve is in permanent contact with sometimes very demanding media.
For this reason, we have a wide selection available for you:
- EPDM - typically used in water treatment or foodstuffs. However, due to its good resistance to vapours and chemical substances, it is also popular in specialist areas such as the aviation sector.
- NBR - our all-rounder for industrial butterfly valves in the moderate temperature range. Particularly recommended for (animal and vegetable) fats, oils or fuels, from diesel to petrol and lubricants.
- FPM and FKM (Viton) - designate the same material, sometimes internationally, sometimes in Germany, or as a separate brand. Often used for more aggressive media and can handle a wide range of chemicals or solvents.
- PTFE, RPTFE or PTFE with EPDM - almost without alternative in highly corrosive production facilities and therefore the standard in a wide range of industries, depending on the design. At Fergo, you will find PTFE-lined butterfly valves with actuator.
- INCONEL 718 - a nickel-based superalloy. Specific in its application, as it is approved up to the highest temperatures and pressures. Often seen in the oil and gas industry, the energy sector or even as a solution for the aerospace industry.

Manual, electric or pneumatic - which type of actuator for your butterfly valve?
In many industrial environments, it is crucial that the flow through a pipeline is not only controlled precisely, but also efficiently. An automated butterfly valve that can be actuated electrically or pneumatically therefore offers a number of advantages. Nevertheless, manual actuators still fulfil their purpose. We therefore have various models for you in our range.
So if you prefer direct control, you should take a closer look at the valves with an integrated hand lever or gearbox. For electric actuation, we can also recommend motors from the J4C series, which are as reliable as they are flexible. However, compressed air is often the method of choice, for example in potentially explosive atmospheres. Our pneumatic butterfly valves have actuators that are single-acting, spring closing and opening, or double-acting in both directions.

Fergo: Multiple certifications and approvals
Whether you buy a butterfly valve in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or elsewhere, its suitability should be confirmed by independent organisations. With us, you are always on the safe side. Our products fulfil national and international standards and have the following certifications, among others:

FAQ – Your questions, our answers!
Industrial butterfly valves regulate the flow in closed pipe systems. Similar to a gate, a disc inside the valve opens and closes to stop the flow. Their main task is to create one of two states, ‘open’ or ‘closed’, but not to throttle the media. Alternative shut-off valves are designed for this purpose. Our needle valves also allow for very precise control.

If you want to buy a butterfly valve, guidelines in Germany stipulate a certain performance. From a mechanical point of view, valves today function very similarly. At the centre is a disc that blocks the flow. This is achieved by rotating it transversely to the direction of flow. In a centric design, the pivot point for this is located in the centre. Double eccentric solutions shift this point further along the axis of the pipe and are not aligned with the centre.

That depends on the desired effect. As the name suggests, non-return valves are primarily designed to prevent backflow of media. They operate passively and close automatically when the flow is appropriate. An electric or pneumatic butterfly valve with a drive can also operate automatically, but still switches actively. Depending on the design of your pipes, it may even be worthwhile to use a combination of both valves.
This is generally difficult to answer and depends on the local conditions. As a rule of thumb, you can use the size as a guide: above a certain nominal diameter, we clearly recommend butterfly valves for pipelines. A ball valve, on the other hand, can be ideal for smaller systems. Both types are suitable for flow control and reliably ensure interruptions without leakage. Simply get in touch with us. Our stainless steel or ductile iron butterfly valves are compact, durable and designed for use in a variety of industries. They are also usually more affordable than comparable gate valves in similar segments. More importantly, however, a butterfly valve that complies with DIN standards performs its task to the utmost satisfaction. The valve blocks the flow reliably and, above all, quickly. The automatic version is particularly impressive.
DVGW certification is mandatory for gas and drinking water pipes. It ensures that the fitting complies with regulations in terms of both technology and hygiene.
Yes. According to the Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV), all products that come into contact with drinking water must comply with generally accepted technical standards. DVGW certification is proof of this. Without it, you not only risk public health, but also recourse claims.
EPDM is the standard here. It has been tested, is hygienically safe and durable.
For many industrial applications, yes – but not permitted for gas and drinking water. Certification is mandatory in these cases.
These terms often describe similar concepts. The key factor is that in high-quality valves, both the valve disc and the seat ring, and in some cases the interior of the housing, are protected by a thick layer of PTFE. This ensures that all parts that come into contact with the medium are protected against corrosion.
Yes, absolutely. PTFE is FDA-compliant and therefore meets the strict requirements for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries. This guarantees the safety of your manufactured goods.
The continuous operating temperature range of our PTFE butterfly valves is typically between -25°C and +200°C. Some models can also tolerate higher temperatures for short periods.
