Body material — CW617N brass
The body and wedge of the VA100 sleeve gate valve are made of brass CW617N to DIN EN 12165. CW617N is a hot-forming brass with good machinability and high strength. This alloy suits water, heating and cooling circuits. The metallic seat seal – brass on brass – delivers tightness up to 16 bar operating pressure. This makes the brass gate valve a durable, low-maintenance solution for industrial service.
Wedge, seat and steel handwheel
The wedge is also brass CW617N and seals metallically against the seat inside the body. The steel handwheel is painted red and gives tactile feedback when opening and closing. The stem follows the rising-stem principle, visible above the handwheel. That way operators see the valve position at first glance. All components are designed for long maintenance intervals. In water and heating service the brass sleeve gate valve typically achieves several decades of life with proper installation and operation.
Connection — ISO 228 female thread and NPT option
The threaded gate valve comes as standard with female thread connections to DIN EN ISO 228-1 (BSPP, parallel). This is the European standard thread for water piping. From DN65 (2 1/2") Fergo also supplies the VA100 with NPT female thread (US standard, tapered). This way the brass sleeve gate valve fits both European and North American pipe systems without adapters.
BSPP or NPT — which thread for your project?
BSPP threads (parallel, to ISO 228) need an additional sealant such as hemp or PTFE tape. They are the standard in Europe and the Middle East. For UK and Nordic projects BSPP is the default choice for a threaded gate valve. NPT threads (tapered, to ANSI/ASME B1.20.1) seal on the thread engagement itself. They are installed with PTFE tape or anaerobic sealant. NPT dominates in North America and in many oil and gas applications. Pick the format that matches the existing pipe network to avoid adapter costs.
Technical data at a glance
The VA100 brass sleeve gate valve follows a single construction across all sizes. Key technical data:
- Nominal size: DN15 to DN100 (1/2" to 4")
- Connection: female thread ISO 228 (BSPP), NPT optional from DN65
- Body: brass CW617N to DIN EN 12165
- Wedge: brass CW617N
- Seat seal: metallic (brass on brass)
- Operating pressure: 16 bar / 232 psi (PN16)
- Temperature range: 0 °C to +150 °C
- Actuation: steel handwheel, painted red
- Design: rising-stem, wedge-type
- Conformity:EU Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU – Article 4(3) SEP
For special applications with soft-seated seals or larger nominal sizes we recommend our stainless steel gate valves as an alternative.
Applications — water, heating and cooling
The brass sleeve gate valve suits service and process water, closed heating circuits and cooling water systems. Typical locations are residential and commercial buildings, plant rooms, compressor stations and industrial water treatment. In heating installations the brass gate valve isolates ahead of boilers, pump groups or manifolds. This lets you isolate individual circuits for maintenance without draining the entire system. In cooling systems it is often fitted ahead of heat exchangers and dry coolers. The VA100 is not suitable for steam service or aggressive media. Use a stainless steel gate valve or a bellows-sealed valve for these applications. For drinking water with DVGW or WRAS approval we stock separate certified ranges.
Installation and operation
Install the sleeve gate valve without pressure and in either horizontal or vertical orientation. The VA100 has no fixed flow direction. Check threads and sealing surfaces for cleanliness before assembly. For BSPP threads use hemp and sealing paste or PTFE tape. For NPT threads PTFE tape or anaerobic sealant is enough. Tighten the thread with a suitable pipe wrench – not by turning the handwheel. After installation check tightness at operating pressure. Operate the brass sleeve gate valve using the handwheel only – do not use an extension bar. This protects the stem and seat from overload. For frequent switching we suggest an annual visual inspection.
Brass sleeve gate valve in stock — EU-wide delivery
Fergo stocks all nine sizes of the VA100 brass sleeve gate valve for immediate dispatch. Standard shipping via DHL reaches customers across Europe within a few working days. Orders placed by 2 pm typically leave the same working day. Each valve ships with a works certificate to EN 10204 2.1. Higher inspection levels such as 2.2 or 3.1 are available on request. For larger projects the Fergo team coordinates scheduled deliveries and framework agreements.
