Butterfly valve with high-grade stainless steel
Stainless steel butterfly valves are ideal for acidic and corrosive fluids and for a wide range of pressures and temperatures. Austenitic stainless steel is ideal for cryogenic processes, while duplex stainless steel is used for higher pressures. Stainless steel is known for its high strength and toughness as well as its resistance to corrosion and weathering. The corrosion resistance is due to the chromium content: A thin, inert layer of chromium oxide forms, which prevents oxygen from penetrating the interior of the material. If the surface is damaged or scratched, the chromium oxide layer forms again with the help of oxygen. This self-healing property prevents rust formation. The resistance to pitting corrosion is attributed to molybdenum.
