Both prevent backflow but differ in design and application:

• A check valve closes via a spring-loaded disc, ball, or axial piston — suited to higher pressures, small to medium nominal sizes, and precise sealing requirements.
• A swing check valve / non-return flap uses one or two spring-loaded flaps — compact wafer design, ideal for larger nominal sizes and space-saving installation.
