Check Valves
A check valve (also called a non-return valve) is a self-acting valve that permits flow in one direction only and closes automatically when flow reverses or pressure drops — with no manual intervention required. It protects pumps, compressors, and pipelines from damaging backflow, water hammer, and contamination. Typical applications include water supply, chemical processing, HVAC, and industrial plant. Fergo stocks all common types ready to ship — browse the full check valve range.
Fergo supplies the following check valve types from stock:
- Disc Check Valves (Wafer) – wafer-style between flanges, compact, DN25–DN600
- Sleeve / Threaded Check Valves – female thread connection, easy installation, DN8–DN50
- Lift Check Valves (Flanged) – to DIN EN 1092-1, PN10–PN40, DN15–DN300
- Ball Check Valves – for viscous media and vertical installation
- Axial Check Valves – low noise, minimal pressure drop, high-cycle applications
- GESTRA Check Valves – for steam and condensate systems
- Foot Valves – for suction lines and pump installations
Fergo supplies check valves in the following materials depending on the medium and operating conditions:
- Brass – for water, air, and neutral media up to 25 bar
- Stainless steel (1.4408 / 1.4301) – for aggressive media, food and pharma applications, up to +180 °C
- Grey cast iron / Ductile iron (GGG40) – for larger nominal sizes and industrial service
- Carbon steel (WCB) – for high-pressure and steam applications
Works certificates (EN 10204-3.1) and technical data sheets are available on request. Contact us.

Both prevent backflow but differ in design and application:
- A check valve closes via a spring-loaded disc, ball, or axial piston — suited to higher pressures, small to medium nominal sizes, and precise sealing requirements.
- A swing check valve / non-return flap uses one or two spring-loaded flaps — compact wafer design, ideal for larger nominal sizes and space-saving installation.
The right choice depends on operating pressure, nominal size, and medium. Our technical team is happy to assist — request advice.
